Dinner at Eight

Happy Monday!

It's a cool day here in San Diego with some rain and wind, a good day to stage a Room With Out Walls in the style of a classic movie.

I chose a movie that I love if only for the pleasure of watching the amazing Jean Harlow strut her stuff on the silver screen.  Dinner At Eight introduces "high society", as viewed in 1933, with a cast of characters that was brimming with talent.  Jean Harlow plays Kitty Packard - the social climbing wife who spends most of her day lounging around.  She and her husband are invited to a dinner party and she wants to make a good impression.

Kitty spent most of her time in her Boudoir so lets see what we can do to recreate a sense of that room outdoors.

Shady Lace Umbrella designed by Chris Kabel for Droog. The umbrella is created out of laser-cut polyester and it allows the sun light to shine though.

Frou Frou from Sywawa fringed and absolutely decadent

Kettal Pavilion is designed by Marcel Wanders.  It is a prefabricated outdoor pavilion with drapes and sheers.

Tassels add a lovely statement to your pavilion when used to tie back your draperies.  Tassels Plus carries a huge assortment.

Gandia Blasco Elevada Day Bed detachable canopy adds the ability to sit up like a chaise lounger.

EgoParis has their own version of the canopy day bed. Eden has opulent details that would thrill Kitty such as the gold surrounding the outside.  This is a fabulous touch.

The Eden also comes with a private canopy that can be removed.

The Ivy Chair is not really practical but, gosh, it is sweet.  The first time I looked at it, I thought it was covered in feathers.  However, they are not feathers but simple white leaves of ivy.  Designed by Satoshi Itasaka for Yanko Designs it's an interesting and alluring piece.

Outdoor Toss Pillows can be fancy.  Many retailers have companies that do sewing for them and these are from Porches and Yards.  Adding cording and fringe gives them a elegant feel.

Paolo Lenti makes everything fabulous but this rug is perfect!  It has the feeling of shag but for outdoor!  From the High Tech collection the rug is called Wind.

From Outdoor Lighting Discounters, Forecast Lighting gives us the Hollywood Hills art deco style pendant lamp.

From Marvin Alexander, a pair of amazing art deco outdoor wall lanterns.  Made in France cira 1930 they would be perfect for the room we are creating.
